Instagram recently debuted a new checkout option that allows users to buy products from more than 20 different brands (and more coming soon) all within the app! The checkout feature makes it easy for people to purchase products they discover directly on Instagram in a fast and secure way. Users love finding new products within Instagram, so it only makes sense that people can discover, shop, and buy in the same place. As quoted by Instagram directly, the checkout feature is “a place to experience the pleasure of shopping versus the chore of buying.”
Checkout is just another fantastic addition to the Instagram marketplace, as they have released several shopping features in the past few months such as product stickers in Stories, product tags in Feed, and a shopping destination on the Explore page. According to Instagram, they now have “130 million Instagrammers tapping to reveal product tags in shopping posts each month.” It is great how Instagram consistently listens to the feedback of their users to release new features and updates that are practical, useful, and innovative.
The Benefits of Checkout
A perk of shopping directly on Instagram is that users no longer have to leave the app to be redirected to the browser when they want to purchase something. You can have your payment information protected and stored in one place, so there is no need to log in and re-enter your payment details over and over again. Users can effortlessly shop their favorite brands with the click of a button. For now, people can pay using Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, and PayPal.
Brands on Checkout
As we said above, there are currently only 23 brands you can shop directly on Instagram with, but they will be adding more to the list. The brands that have the checkout feature include: Adidas, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Balmain, Burberry, ColourPop, Dior, Huda Beauty, H&M, KKW Beauty, Kylie Cosmetics, MAC Cosmetics, Michael Kors, NARS, Nike, NYX Cosmetics, Oscar de la Renta, Outdoor Voices, Ouai Hair, Prada, Revolve, Uniqlo, Warby Parker and Zara. It makes sense that the first batch of brands on the checkout feature also happens to have strong influencer marketing campaigns and strategies.
Access to checkout is limited to brands during this closed beta. However, once it expands, businesses can join checkout directly or work with partners including BigCommerce, Shopify, CommerceHub, ChannelAdvisor, and more. Payments will be processed with PayPal.
