The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) run events to help firms understand expectations for the Consumer Duty. Find out about current events and watch on-demand webinars.

 

Current events

 

Consumer Duty: 1 year on

The Consumer Duty sets a higher standard of consumer protection in financial services. It came into force on 31 July 2023 for new and existing products, and will apply to closed products and services from 31 July 2024.

 

To mark these milestones the FCA is livestreaming an event on 31 July 2024. It will focus on:

 

  • the impact the Duty has had in its first year
  • examples of good practice and areas for improvement
  • the FCA’s priorities for the year ahead

 

Speakers will include:

 

  • Sheldon Mills, executive director, consumers and competition, FCA
  • Graeme Reynolds, director of competition, FCA
  • Abby Thomas, chief executive and chief ombudsman, Financial Ombudsman Service

 

You will be able to submit questions when you register. The FCA will use these to shape the questions during the panel discussion. You can also submit questions during the event.

 

This livestreamed event will be of interest to regulated firms and compliance consultants. Registration is required.

The FCA hosted a webinar to help firms understand expectations now the Duty is in force. They focused on the following areas:

  • Sector specific areas of focus
  • Examples of good practice
  • Next steps for firms

 

The FCA also answered questions you submitted before and during the webinar.

The webinars have covered the following sectors and are available to watch on demand:

 

 

During the sessions, the FCA focused on the following areas:

 

  • FCA expectations for firms under the Consumer Duty and key milestones during the implementation period
  • What outcomes-based regulation means
  • What the Consumer Duty means for each sector
  • How the Duty applies proportionally

 

The FCA also answered questions you submitted before and during the webinars.

 

The webinars will be of interest to regulated firms, trade associations, professional bodies and compliance consultants. If you’re not sure which webinar would be of most relevance to your sector, all the webinars cover some non-sector specific information.

 

Live & Local events

The FCA hosted a series of Live & Local events across the UK between February and June 2023. Aimed at small and medium sized firms, the events focused on the retail investment and mortgage sectors.
